The Craft Room!!!!

It’s Done!  It’s Done…. It’s Done, It’s Done, It’s DONE!!!

After all the planning, dreaming, changing of minds, and yes… some procrastination… the Craft Room (on a strict budget) is finally done!  I can’t believe it!  It took a lot of days where I pushed way more than I should have and ended up with what I call “Skullcrackers” from my brain injury but it is finished… painted, decorated, storage ideas completed and I am so happy with it and the fact it is finished.  Now maybe I can make use of it!

Thank you to everyone who “Stayed Tuned” for it’s completion and a HUGE thank you to my mother-in-law for what she did to help!

About the only thing I need to do now is to organize it more and label everything but the main part, the actual creation of it is done.  My mother-in-law told me she has a paint organizer that I can hang in there… so the next time we get together I will pick it up and hang it… I even kept a perfect spot for it on the walls!

Crystal Lamp – Repurposed

Quite a while back I bought a pretty lamp through one of the auction sites I like to frequent for about $2.00. I knew I wanted to put it in the craft room but I hadn’t really decided if I was going to leave it as is, or “embellish” it lol.

I’m sure you can guess which direction I went in!

Because it was an old lamp, Chris rewired it for me before I got started. Thank you Chris lol!

I had some really nice beaded pearl “ribbon” that I thought would be perfect for the lamp, along with some off white lace, pink ribbon, a new lamp shade and my dreaded glue gun!

I started by glueing strips of the beaded pearl ribbon around each of the metal bands on the lamp.

Then I moved on to the lamp shade.

The lace I had turned out to be the perfect width for the lamp shade!

I glued it around the top of the shade, starting and stopping at the seam at the back of the shade.

Then glued a longer strip of the beaded pearl ribbon around the top, covering the edge of the lace and again starting and stopping at the seam at the back.

I put the shade back on the lamp so I could make sure it was centred before glueing a small pink bow near the top of the shade.

And this is my girly repurposed lamp for the craft room!!!

Change Table Makeover – Craft Room Storage!

I finished the change table yesterday!!! I have had the actual change table since February and I’ve been itching to get going on it. Since the weather has been horrendous (an ice storm in April?) this weekend, I decided that’s what I was going to do!

Here is the change table before I painted it. Just a plain old change table.

I painted it with a few coats of chalk paint to match the Dresser and the End Table Cat Bed.

And then started loading it up once it had a chance to dry overnight.

Let me tell you… it fits a whole lot!! I have a bunch of bins and tins on the shelves that are still empty! Not that I won’t fill them and many other bins when I start bringing all the craft supplies from all over the house to it’s new home in the craft room lol!

We are planning on putting a section of pegboard above it for additional storage.

I have also been buying plastic containers every time I go to the dollar store for the pipe shelf. We are going to be able to sort and stack so many supplies in there! For now I have just been stuffing things in them to get them out of the way.

Once everything else is done I will sort through them and label them accordingly!

It is starting to actually look and feel like a craft room now!

Fabric Covered Note Board

I have this really old frame, well I suppose it’s not that old lol…. it was purchased with money sent over from England from my great grandparents when I got married for the first time, so we are talking about 30 years! It feels like a lifetime ago!

When we were helping the kids clean out an apartment I saw the old frame still there and knowing it was technically from my great grandparents lol, I decided to bring it home and upcycle it into something in the craft room!

I cleaned it up and give it a nice coat of paint… a one off colour… I sort of knew what colour I wanted it to be but didn’t have that colour in my paint stash. I mixed different colours until I came close to what I wanted.

Chris cut me out a rectangle the same size as the inside of the frame from some thin board I bought at the hardware store.

I used the hot glue gun and attached batting to the rectangle piece of wood.

Covered it with a piece of fabric (the same fabric I am going to make curtains for the craft room and various other accents), gluing the edges to the back of the piece of wood to hold it in place.

And then I crisscrossed strips of ribbon over the fabric, on the diagonal, using hot glue to hold where the ribbon met the outside edge and to the back of the piece of wood.

I ran strips of duct tape on the back, over the fabric and ribbon edges to avoid any raw edges or any of it letting go over time….

And attached the piece of fabric covered wood back into the frame using bent over finishing nails because it’s all I could find.

We now have a pretty fabric covered note board for the craft room to save bits and pieces we find along the way on our creative journey!

Craft Room Shelf

On Sunday, Chris did the bottom of what we call the “Pipe Shelf” in the craft room.  It is more or less a rather large bulkhead that I want to use as storage in the craft room.

Up until now, I just had some random pieces of wood, placed haphazardly along the bottom so I could pile my s**t on top of them lol!

Chris took his measurements and used up some 2 x 4’s and fence boards we had laying around to make a nice even and strong base for our shelf! I think I figured out we will be able to fit upwards of 40 or more of the shoebox sized plastic bins in there now.  Can you imagine how much storage this will provide???

You can see here where he cut around one of the “pipes” of the pipe shelf/bulkhead to make sure we have plenty of shelf space!

I’m still not sure if I am going to paint the base of the shelf or not but I just couldn’t wait to see how the plastic shoebox style boxes I plan on putting on the shelf fit or not lol!  I can fit those, as well as other assorted sizes of plastic storage in there…. all neatly tucked away on the new shelf base, behind the curtains I have yet to make!!!!

It just feels so good knowing we are finally heading in the right direction with the long awaited craft room!!!

Refinished Dresser (For Craft Room)

On the weekend I decided it was time to paint this old dresser we had in the basement. I thought that once redone, it would work perfect as extra storage in the craft room and that we could pretty it up!

I am getting excited about finally getting to work on the craft room.  In my mind, I can see how it will look when it’s done… now I just have to get there! (You can see my next project on the far left…. a cat bed for Jeffy!)

I bought chalk paint through Amazon, in a sort of turquoise colour.  The paint was awesome to work with.  It was thick, meaning minimal drips, and it covered great!

It’s Craft Room time!!!

Sorry we have been absent for a few days.  I am claiming a Christmas hangover.  I have done pretty much nothing but what was absolutely required and a lot of napping but I think it’s go time again!

The other day I started to clean out the craft room.  Over the past few months it’s served more as the Christmas and wrapping room and it was a huge mess!

You can see the huge bag of pretty much recycling in one of the pictures!

I am going to start by painting the furniture.  Most of it will be done with a chalk paint finish.  I bought this colour of chalk paint from Amazon a while back.  I’m going to use it on this dresser. 

For the sewing table I think we are going to go with this one. I have the sewing machine set up so it can be used but had to put a cardboard box over it until I make a cover to keep the cats out of It!

We have decided to switch from the queen size bed to a futon.  We got one with wooden arms so I think I will paint it the same as the dresser. 
I have this octagonal end table I was going to make into a cat bed/table but there’s a possibility it may be painted and used in the nursery instead.

And there’s this dresser:( I’m not sure if it’s worth trying to rescue.  It was Dillons when he was a baby!

There is a lot of work to do but I’m happy it’s finally time to get going on it !

Craft Room Update /Dilemma – What Colour?

We can’t choose a paint colour.  There are so many beautiful colours that would work great with the quilt we are basing a colour scheme on!

We’ve decided to ask for help. We are going to post pictures of the colour swatches and would like all of you to help us choose!
