I can’t believe how long it’s been since my last post. And again I apologize. I don’t even have anything prepared to post but I wanted to at least say HI!
Somehow I am sick again 🤒🤧🙄. With all the medication I take for my brain injury, finding something to take for anything else seems impossible… so I trudge through. The word pneumonia is now on the table, so with that in mind… I thought I would repost a “feel good” homemade soup recipe!
I hope everyone is doing well and hopefully I will be back to posting regularly soon!
Although we had to postpone our visit again due to weather to the coming weekend, I still made another pot of soup for when Kim and family were coming up last weekend. I did freeze it, well most of it because Chris wanted a bowl lol, so that I would still have it to simply reheat for this weekend’s visit because once I told Kim what kind of soup I had made, her response was a resounding Yummmmmmm lol! Below is the recipe for this soup… if you love broccoli cheese soup, this is definitely a recipe you will want to try!
When I first wrote this post I had no idea how popular it would be. I swear this post is at the top of our viewed posts lists every single day. I reread it today while thinking that it is almost time to start planning my granddaughter’s second birthday and think again… where has the time gone? Not only is she going to be turning 2 years old in a few months, but I am also going to be a grandmother again shortly after that!
With everything going on with my grandmother, I have been pondering life a lot the last while. While I am struggling with my grandmother’s age, I am very thankful for my beautiful little granddaughter and my grandson who is on the way. My granddaughter is the joy of my life and my grandson will definitely share that spot once he is born!
With all that in mind I thought I would repost this Planning a First Birthday Post since it seems to be THE most popular one I have written and hope anyone who hasn’t read it enjoys it as much as everyone else seems to be!
I honestly do not know where the time has gone but in less than a month my/our granddaughter is going to be One!!! While I hate that the time has flown by, I do look forward to joining Kim in planning and executing the party.
I actually spent the afternoon with my granddaughter yesterday after my Dr’s appointment and even though I spent the night babysitting her 2 weekends ago, it is amazing how much she has learned since then! She must have spent an hour “reading” to her Grandma yesterday lol… at least that’s what I think she was doing because I have somehow forgotten over the years how to translate baby talk …. it was either that or she was cursing me out, so I prefer to think she was telling me a story since she Was holding a Care Bears book while she “talked.”
We have decided to go with a Minnie Mouse theme for her First Birthday party! And as you can imagine… Pinterest has provided us with more ideas than we will ever need. Today I chose to highlight some of the ideas we are thinking of implementing!
Something as simple as how you lay out the (paper) plates can significantly add to the theme of a party. We found a picture that shows 2 sized of black paper plates displayed in such a way that they look like Mickey/Minnie Mouse.
Or even using construction paper, craft foam or even Bristol board to add bows to the plates to fancy them up a bit!
Even the cutlery and how it is displayed can help carry the theme to the food tables. I found 2 great examples of this… we just haven’t decided which one to use…. yet! I think we will use the first example to decorate the glass beverage dispenser I have to fill with some kind of pink punch!
I found a really cool way to display “through the first year” photos showing everyone how much she has grown.
Free Printables to add Minnie Mouse “Bows” to anything and everything lol….
Even ways to decorate plain white bows to carry the theme throughout.
Kim has some Mickey Mouse shaped cookie cutters we are going to use to shape the sandwiches and maybe cheese for cheese and crackers…. there are hundreds of cute cupcake ideas… and I found the cutest pink Minnie Mouse shaped meringue on sticks.
We found some cute… and what seems easy to make… table decorations.
And finally the cake!!!! I think we have decided on one similar to the one in the picture below to make the cake.
We have so many ideas in our heads… and saved on Pinterest… that should make this First Birthday party something she will remember for years… if only through pictures she sees later in life lol!
Our nephew loves going to the movies, so I thought this year I would make him a movie/popcorn themed gift. I got a popcorn bucket to put everything in, got movie type snacks and popcorn seasoning, sent Chris out for a theatre gift card and then I went into Design Space and made up a T-shirt that sort of looks like the popcorn bucket design to go with it.
I loaded everything into the basket..
And then wrapped it up ready to go!!! Phew! Another gift ready to go!
This is another one of those cute gifts I saw on that terrible day shredding website Pinterest lol.
With my not so new toy, my Cricut, the ideas I can find there, and the many other free sites, I don’t think I’ll ever run out of gift ideas for ANYONE!
For this gift I decided to do the “Bear Family” images on white t-shirts and pairing them with cozy Pajama pants to make a nice family gift for Kim, Codey and Scarlyt, my beautiful little granddaughter!
I cut the images all out of black heat transfer vinyl and then ironed them on to the t-shirts, paired them with the Pajama pants and wrapped each set with ribbon!
Now they are all wrapped up under the tree ready for Christmas day!
My father-in-law takes great pride in maintaining his lawn lol…. so last year we bought him this funny baseball cap for Christmas from an online store called Bits and Pieces.
This year we thought it would be fun to find him a T-shirt to go with it. Then we thought that maybe I could make him one!!!!
My skills on the Cricut and in Design Space aren’t quite up to designing at that level yet, so I went to Etsy and found exactly what I was looking for to make the T-shirt!!! Here is where I found the pattern!
I decided to do the image in yellow on a green t-shirt for him. I wanted it to really POP on the shirt.
And then lol… we decided to take it one step further… and I cut out the word “Supervisor” in CAPS and put it on the back of the shirt for all to see when he is out tending to his lawn! Everyone is going to know who the Lawn Boss is in his neighbourhood lol!
These socks with the Sayings on they are EVERYWHERE! I thought, why not jump on the bandwagon and make some for everyone for Christmas lol.
I made some that I thought appropriate for everyone and cut Heat Transfer Vinyl.
This was another one of those I hope it works projects, because you really have to wonder sometimes if something can really work as well as people say at so many different things. Lets just say that again, I was very pleasantly surprised.
Heat Transfer Vinyl “weeds” so well. It doesn’t have the tendency to rip as regular vinyl can at times if you aren’t careful. It pulls off around the designs perfectly. That wasn’t the part I was worried about.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t say I have ever ironed socks. I wasn’t sure how the vinyl would adhere to the socks or if my little iron would actually burn/melt the socks lol! Apparent it won’t.
The vinyl adhered perfectly! All I had to do was design what I wanted on the socks, cut the HTV, lay it out on the soles of the socks and iron it on. It was SO easy and I was SO impressed yet again!
For Chris I did “We Interrupt This Marriage for Hockey Season” with a Blue Maple Leaf on them
For Dillon I did “All I Got For Christmas Are Crappy Socks” with the Poop Emoji on them
For Codey (my son-in-law) I did “If You Can Read This I’m Busy” with a game controller on them
And for Kim I did Labour Socks lol, They say “I Can Not Keep Calm I’m Having A Baby” with little Baby Feet on them!
Today is the Day I get my special Christmas gift from Chris!!!! I am very excited.
As many of you may know, if you have been reading our posts for awhile, we lost one of our dogs… Kita…. a year ago September. It was very difficult for us and we have been a long time getting over her.
We have talked for the last little while about getting another dog/puppy as a playmate for Leroy, the dog we still have because we think he is very lonely without his playmate but for the longest time couldn’t get past feeling like we would be “replacing” Kita if we got another dog. I know to anyone who doesn’t own pets it might sound silly, but pets are part of your family and it takes time to get over losing one of your family members.
This week I saw a puppy that immediately tugged at my heartstrings and as soon as I saw her, not only did I want her to join our family, her name jumped into my head lol. She will be joining our crazy ass family on Tuesday!!!
Everyone meet little Miss Lucy! On Tuesday she will be joining the Logan Funny Farm and making it her new permanent residence! Not the best pictures but all I have for right now! They still show all of her puppy cuteness though lol!
Lucy is 3/4 Black Lab and 1/4 Maremma. As you can see she is mostly black but with white spots…. one of which is on her chest, which to me looks like little angel wings or a butterfly. Maybe that is what spoke to me lol. I don’t know what it was but she is to become a member of our family today!
If I disappear for a day or two, you know it’s just because I am either inundated trying to finish getting ready for Christmas or inundated with puppy kisses or training lol!
I WISH I had seen something like this when Kim was pregnant with my first Grandbaby! I think it is so cute and would make such a cool keepsake of a pregnancy. Once I saw it I had to make it!
Surprisingly enough, there is actually “pregnant woman” images in Design Space so I was actually able to make my own ornament within the program.
I knew what I wanted it to look like based on some of the other ones I had seen done so all I had to do was get in there and design it, cut it and stick it on the ornament lol!
Here is how the design looked in Design Space what I had what I wanted.
I cut the vinyl and then waited for the paint to dry on the inside of the ornament. All of the ornaments I bought were clear so that I could make them how I wanted them, which meant painting the insides to match whatever I was doing…. this one being white.
I adhered the vinyl to the ornament once the paint dried inside and that part was done.
As with the Christmas Story ornaments, it still needs a bow once I get to the dollar store and a hanger, but the ornament itself is done.
This is going to be a special Mother to Daughter gift from me to Kim this Christmas!
Yes, another one lol… I’m honestly starting to think that when I go down to my craft room that my Cricut is going to start hiding from me lol!
This project is my take on something else I saw. What I saw was a Christmas ornament done on a curved piece of wood. It was really cool. It looked to be about 4 or 5 inches long and maybe 3 or 4 inches wide and was just like I said curved wood in an oval shape. When I saw it I thought it would be really cool for my son-in-law. Then the wheels started to turn in the hamster wheel in my brain and the hamsters said…”Hey, what about a travel mug?” So, I took their advice and this is that project!
I do have to admit I was a little concerned when I started it. There was a lot of layering and the guitar strings looked like they would be hard to “weed” and get straight on the travel mug.
It went surprisingly easy! The Cricut cut the lines/strings perfectly and somehow I was able to take a dollar store travel mug, some wood grained vinyl, cut everything and even get the lines on fairly straight. I am pretty happy with how it turned out and when I sent a picture to Kim when it was done, I got and awesome so I will take that as a point in the win column and get it wrapped and ready for gifting!!!
