Hot Cross Buns



 Is it really Easter if you don’t have Hot Cross Buns? Not to me, so this definitely deserves to be posted again lol!



 I have never made Hot Cross Buns before, and certainly never from scratch considering my fear of yeast until the past year or so!  This year however I saw a recipe on Pinterest and decided I just had to try it.  What could possibly go wrong?  Other than the 3 of us eating a whole pan of nice, warm Hot Cross Buns….. Nothing! (embarrassed face)

Here is the link to the recipe I found and that turned out absolutely perfect!  I want to give credit where credit is due and this recipe was easy to follow and the results could not have been better.

Chocolate Macaroon “Nests”

I have been making these “Macaroons” for as long as I can remember, but I have to admit that turning them into “nests” never crossed my mind until I saw a picture somewhere.

I can recall my mother making them when we were kids and even before the cookies were set we were fighting over who would get to eat the little bits that fall off the spoon when you are dropping them onto the cookie sheet!  Now the ones we made also had coconut and I would have switched out a cup of oatmeal for coconut but neither one of my kids like coconut… strange beings!  They must have gotten that anomaly from their father!

Easter Mint Patties

I first saw this recipe before Christmas, put it on my to do list, but it didn’t happen.  So, when I saw the same sort of thing on Pinterest but done in Easter colours, I just had to try it!  This is where I saw the original recipe!

Now I of course didn’t follow the recipe exactly.  I had to employ my “cheater” methods to make it faster and they actually worked!!!!

While you can find the actual recipe at the link above, I will walk you through the steps I took doing it my way.  The end result was great and they are very yummy and minty.

My Almost-Jumbo Easter Cookie

I start this, my very first post from the kitchen, with a confession. There’s no point in sugar coating it (no pun intended) – I am not a baker.

Cooking? Absolutely! But baking…. Let’s just say most things related to baking seem to fall into the category of “not gonna happen”. I’ve burnt things, had other things turn out too dry, others taste like flour, others not cook fully, and others… well, your guess is as good as mine… I’ve tried countless things but continue to fall victim to my personal kryptonite – flour.

Easter Crafts – Repost

I have to admit that I haven’t made any Easter Crafts since my two were little, so we are talking a good 15 years or so (and yes, that was very difficult to admit to!). But in the interest of our new blog I decided to do a few, especially after looking at all the pretty ones on Pinterest.  One of the crafts I started I am not sure is going to be post-able as a win though.  I will see tomorrow.

Either way, here is the first of 2 Easter crafts I made today (that turned out).  It is a Bunny Scrapbook Paper Silhouette.

I found everything I needed to make it at the Dollar Store (my favourite store!) and this is a Kid Friendly craft!

Clay Pot Bunny Vase

I thought that with Easter fast approaching, the coming week would be a good time to repost some of the Easter projects we have done in the past! We hope you enjoy some of these projects!!!

It’s time for my first post!

I received flowers as a thank you gift at work on Friday and thought it would be fun to create a cute Easter-themed vase to hold them. I was able to find all of my supplies for the vase at the dollar store, with the exception of a few items I already had at home (likely purchased from the dollar store in a previous visit).

I looked online and in magazine for inspiration for my Easter-themed vase and combined a number of ideas to create my clay pot bunny centerpiece. This project was extremely simple and would be a great craft for individuals with children also!

Carrot Cake Trifle





Our Easter Carrot Cake Trifle


When I was perusing Pinterest, for one of my 2 or 3 (hour long) peeks a day, I came across this recipe.  What could possibly be better than combining Carrot Cake and Trifle?  My husband loves both so I thought I would make it for part of our Easter dessert.

It is DELICIOUS!  It is very, very filling and very sweet but well worth trying.  We thoroughly enjoyed (and are still enjoying) it!
