RAKA Award Nominations

We would like to start by thanking https://mwsrwritings.com for nominating us for this.  We will try to post keeping the spirit of the nomination in mind.  Both Kim and myself will add our own Random Act story to the post.

Here is the original link we received for this nomination where we found the directions on how to participate: https://mwsrwritings.com/2018/09/26/raka-award-nominations-award-share/

Here are the rules taken from the nominating blog!

The rules are simple

1- Tell who you nominate and why.
2= Copy and share the picture that shows the award, posted above.
3- Share a paragraph of something that impacted your own life in the way of receiving kindness or how you extended kindness to someone else.
For instance, ” I once was waiting in a drive thru line for 20 minutes. I was in a hurry but the line did not move much, it felt like. My day was getting worse by the moment. When I got up to the drive thru window, the cashier said someone had paid for my meal already. That really made my day a lot better.”
4- Nominate anyone or share to your own page. If you so choose to Participate. Tag or pingback to the original person who nominated you, or the original post.

Here are the blogs we are nominating for the RAKA

Our Random Acts of Kindness

My random act of kindness, like most things in my life right now, reverts to my car accident.  To this day I do not remember getting out of or being helped out of my car once it finally landed on the fence.  I remember the trees coming towards me (and yes, I do know I was heading to them, not the other way around but that is how it felt at the time) and then being halfway up the incline being assisted by a good Samaritan who saw my accident and stopped to help.  He led me up the incline and let me sit and wait in their warm vehicle until help ( and Chris) arrived.  I will be forever thankful for their Random Act of Kindness! It is truly a shame I did not think at the time to get their names to thank them properly.

It feels like such a fitting time of year to think about the many things in my life for which I’m grateful. There are many; so many that I couldn’t narrow it down to just one to write about. Simple things, like a friend leaving a sticky note on my computer at work that said “You’re awesome” when she knew I was having a rough week. Or a co-worker leaving an inspirational book on my desk, with a particularly relevant section highlighted for me. Or my mom making me soup when I had morning sickness and didn’t feel like eating or cooking. Or the young woman at the grocery store that helped me bag my groceries when I went on my first grocery shopping venture with baby alone. Or another friend that saved coupons for me. The list goes on and on. I am so thankful for all of the little random acts of kindness I experience on a daily basis and I try my best to reciprocate and perform random acts of kindness whenever I can too.

Sunshine Blogger Award

We would like to start by thanking https://mwsrwritings.com for nominating us for this award. We really appreciate it… it always nice to recognized for something you create!

As per the nomination post, here are the rules!
Rules are…
Thank your nominator.
Link or ping the post back to them.
Display the picture on your post.
Answer their questions.
Provide questions for the nominated people you choose.

Note: As awful as it sounds, I am pretty sure that we were nominated for another award a month or two ago and I can’t seem to find the link so I want to apologize to the nominator of that award. It isn’t that we didn’t appreciate the nomination, it’s just that my injured brain forgets things and it got lost in the spaghetti that is my brain now. Our family has also been busy enjoying every moment of baby time, which can be very distracting (in a good way)!
First we will answer the questions given to us by our nominator, https://mwsrwritings.com (and yes, we will provide the link to her blog as many times as we can… we hope you enjoy reading her poetry as much as we do!):

1. What makes you cry?
Sandie: Sad movies, sometimes even ones with happy endings.
Kim: Post-pregnancy – EVERYTHING! Pre-pregnancy, and still more than most other things, anything involving animals. I can’t watch animal rescue or hospital shows without crying my eyes dry…. even when everything turns out okay. I watched a documentary while I was pregnant and cried for about 6 hours because the “mommy kitty” didn’t make it.

2. What gives you joy?
Sandie: Now, every time I see my new grandbaby smile!
Kim: My baby girl! Every day I think I couldn’t possibly love her more… and then the next day comes and I do!

3. What is your favorite book and why?
Sandie: This one is hard…. reading is my addiction… I don’t think I can give just one title so I will instead list a genre… paranormal mysteries
Kim: I’m not as big of a reading fan as my mom but if I find a book I like then I won’t put it down until it’s done. I really like the Inspector Gamache series of books by Louise Penny. I don’t think I could possibly pick one book that’s better than the others. She’s truly an incredible writer. She hooks me from the first page of each book.

4. Who is your hero and why?
Sandie: My hero is my grandmother, Emilie. She is the one person who has always, always, always, been there for me no matter what.
Kim: As a child, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was my hero. Even today, most of my heroes are caped characters found in the pages of comic books (or on television). I not-so-secretly wish that I had super powers so that I could make the world a better place. When I return to reality, I think of those who have accomplished great things despite their situations. When I was in elementary school we did projects on heroes and I chose Helen Keller. Her accomplishments are extraordinary and still an inspiration to me. Similarly, I read a story a few years ago about a man with no legs who climbed Kilimanjaro. I keep his story at my desk at work. Not only do their stories help to put things in perspective when my life is going through a rough patch, but it inspires me to never stop reaching for my goals.

5. Favorite food?
Sandie: Potato Soup… this sort of reverts back to question #4. Potato soup is something that always reminds me of my grandmother as it is one of the favourite things she makes for us when we visit.
Kim: I second potato soup. Whenever I’m not feeling well, it’s always an excuse to ask my mom to make some. I would also add my mom’s cherry cheesecake. It’s always been my favourite.

6. Your reason for blogging?
Sandie: In all honesty, I/we started this blog more as something to try to occupy my mind while I have been off work for the past 2 1/2 year (and counting) from a brain injury. Living in the country and being unable to drive/work was giving me cabin fever and a lack of direction. Blogging ended up becoming a way for me/us to share the things that we love to make/do with other people.
Kim: While I haven’t been actively blogging for a while because of my pregnancy and now my time as a new mom, but I love having opportunities to write. Writing has always been a passion of mine.

7.Your favorite movie and why?
Sandie: An Officer and a Gentleman, even though I don’t generally like chick flicks AND I always cry when he carries her our of the factory lol!
Kim: Fight Club. Nothing compares to the twist of the movie the first time you watch it!

8. What is your favorite number?
Sandie: I don’t have a favourite number.
Kim: 27. I was born February 7 and so I’ve always considered 2-7 to be my lucky number(s). Since I got pregnant with my first child last year at 27 years old, I definitely still feel the number is lucky.

9. One thing you have learned about life?
Sandie: Shit happens, scoop it up and move on
Kim: One thing I’m still learning… you can’t control everything around you but you can control how you react/respond.

10. What would you say to your younger self?
Sandie: Don’t be such a dumbass lol
Kim: Take a chill pill!

11. One thing you’d change about the world and why?
Sandie: The ill treatment of children around the world.
Kim: I am so fortunate to live in Canada where we have free health care. I wish the luxuries of free health care could be afforded to others around the world.

Questions to Us from SavouriebyS

If you had a choice between travelling to your past or future, which would you choose and why?

Sandie – I think I would travel to the past and try to stop myself from making some of the stupid mistakes I made growing up lol!

Kim – I would travel to the future. While there are many things in my past I would like to redo, I’m afraid that it would change where I am today and for the most, I’m happy with where my life is and where it’s going. With the future, I’d like to think (or perhaps Hollywood has tricked me) that if I saw something I didn’t like, there would still be opportunity to change it.

If you were a ghost, where would you visit (or revisit) in the human realm and why?

Sandie – I think I would just revisit home to make sure everyone is doing all right, and maybe try to scare the crap out of them!

Kim – Agreed (with mom), I would revisit my family, wherever they may be.

If you were to choose one ethnicity to be a part of apart from your own, which would it be and why?

Sandie – I think I would want to be African because of the culture, the food, the wildlife, the history.

Kim – Fun question! I would love to be Japanese. Similarly to my mom’s rationale for her decision, I love their culture, food, landscape, and history.

Pick a color that you would say resembles your personality and why so?

Sandie – Can we pick rainbow?  My personality could be represented by so many different colours.

Kim – Blue, wish a hint of green. In high school we took personality quizzes and I was a mix of blue/green and I still am today after re-reading what these colours mean here.

If you had the option of living in a different time period or era, which would it be and why?

Sandie –  Definitely the 50’s!  Life seemed so much simpler back then… besides I love the music.

Kim – 70s! Reason 1 – I would have been a hippie! Reason 2 – Led Zeppelin! Led Zeppelin is my all-time favourite band (perhaps I should have listed that as a random fact). I would have loved to have seen them live “back in the day”.

Sweet or savory foods?

Sandie –  Most definitely savory!

Kim – My eyes say sweet, my stomach says savory!

If you met a person who’s never heard of blogging before, how would you describe it to them?

Sandie –  I would describe it as a wonderful community that shares, through writing, things they enjoy, are good at, want or need to share, ideas, the list is endless of what you can share through blogging

Kim – A blog is like an online journal where individuals have the freedom to share their passions publicly.

Define happiness in your own words, even if its as simple as a chocolate bar.

Sandie –  Happiness is a nice cold drink, a comfy chair and a good book

Kim – Happiness is so many things but the first thing that came to mind was…. laughing so hard your tummy hurts (and your eyes water).

Upon receiving your nomination, what was the first line of thought that came to your head?

Sandie – I can’t believe we did it again lol

Kim – (My mom shared with my via text message) – Wow! That’s awesome!

If you unleashed a genie in a bottle, what would your 3 wishes be and why?

Sandie – 1 – Financial freedom  2 – 100 acres of livable land in the middle of nowhere 3 – a stress less world for everyone

Kim – 1) Endless travel funds. 2) A house in Kelowna, British Columbia. 3) If this was an all-powerful genie I would wish to reverse global warming to hopefully rescue a number of endangered species – I love animals and I want my children one day to be able to know and see all the animals I have.

What is one key to success you strongly believe in?

Sandie –  Perserverence

Kim – Self-motivation…. there is always going to be days when you just have to do it on your own.
