A Little Bit of Beading….

I don’t do a lot of bead work as a general rule… especially right now having a head injury that has cause visual issues… but I thought I would play around with some beads I picked up at the dollar store this past week to surprise my mother-in-law with a couple of cute gifts at Mother’s Day.

We also bought her a box of the embroidery thread (and stabilizer) lol… when she heard all about the new sewing machine I bought for myself she wanted in on the fun too. While she hasn’t actually done any embroidery on her machine yet, we wanted her to have the thread on the ready so when she decides it’s time to try it she’s all set!

The bracelet I made was done with a small box of coordinated colours of beads I picked up from the big dollar store… same goes for the tassels I added to both projects.

I used regular beading wire and some silver coloured chain I had in my stash to make the bracelet. Other than attaching the clasp which gave me a hassle, the bracelet was just a matter of organizing the beads on a tray to determine the design I wanted to use and then actually threading everything on to the wire and tucking the ends in!

Here is the finished bracelet… with a little bit of creative license with the pictures lol… I got a new phone and it had a few cool effects!

And here is a little dragonfly key chain. I probably should have taken pictures, of both, as I was going but with it not fully cooperating with me during the process I totally forgot.

I just folded the jewelry wire in half, cut to a length I thought would work and started threading beads onto it to form my dragonfly.

I finished it off by adding a key chain ring, tassel and a little bit of ribbon hanging from the ring as well. Kind of cute, and sort of worth any hassles it might have given me lol!

Sewing Day #8

As you have probably noticed from my recent Sewing Posts, I have been having a great time playing around with my new sewing machine lol.

With Mother’s day just past, I used it as an opportunity to play some more…. not only did I make my Mother-in-law a cool reusable bag that says, “Check Meowt” I also made her a monogrammed handkerchief!

I know that not many people actually use them any more but I still thought it was a nice little gift!

For Kim, I got her a cute bracelet that says, “Mama Bear,” and I stitched/embroidered her a little gift bag to put it in with one of her favourite characters on it… Betty Boop!!!

That is the sewing I managed to get done for Mother’s Day and the gifts were greatly appreciated.

Metal Washer/Nail Polish Necklaces

I have seen similar to this all over Pinterest… Imagine that lol…. and I have been wanting to try them ever since!

I was out in the shop last week and saw a box full of washers sitting on the truck Chris is working on.  I asked him if he had uses for all of them and thankfully he only needed a few for his project and gave me some to “play” with!  These necklaces are the outcome of my playing.

I already had a bunch of necklace cords in the Craft Room so Sunday afternoon I made these! The yellow one is my favourite.  I used a zigzag motion with the toothpick and it almost looks like flowers!

Cat Face Birdhouse

This was another gift I made for Mother’s Day… and another thing I didn’t think through fully before starting!  The intent was for the mouth of the cat to be centered on the hole of the birdhouse but the birdhouse I bought didn’t work out that way.  My only excuse?? Shopping really frazzles me right now.  Too many people, too many things to remember, just too much but I really wanted to paint this birdhouse and worked around my mistake as best I could!

Mother’s Day “Handbag” Cake

I saw a cake like this in a grocery store flyer.  I was going to buy it but figured I could make it myself instead.  While it was simple enough to make, I did have a few issues but mainly from my not thinking it through fully before I started lol!

While things didn’t go exactly as planned, it still didn’t turn out too bad!

Garlicky Cucumber & Radish “Spiralizer” Salad

I got a Spiralizer for Mother’s Day!!!! I guess all my hints paid off lol.  I have been wanting one for what seems like ages but never remembered to order myself one.  Now I have one! I received beautiful gifts from both of my kids… thank you to both of you… as well as from Chris and not only a wonderful lunch at my “in-laws” home but some beautiful cream coloured roses!  I was spoiled!

Since we were having the Mother’s Day lunch and although I was told I didn’t need to bring anything I couldn’t help myself… especially once I received the Spiralizer!!! I had to find something to make and this won out.  I was going to use the same recipe I use when making my usual Cucumber Salad, but this time I tried a different dressing and other than the cucumber and radish spirals being very long and difficult to serve up ( I will have to remember next time to cut them into smaller pieces lol), everyone enjoyed the salad immensely!

I made a little “bouquet” of them for her for Mother’s Day!

This is  quick and easy project and sure to brighten up anyone’s day!
